Hello everyone again, today I will talk to you about my favourite tree wich is the Maiten(Maytenus boaria). I chose this one because I believe it is a beautiful tree and I really like the colors and the architecture that it has. It is a native tree of South America. In my country, Chile, it inhabits from Tarapacá to Magallanes, but at present it is in very restricted zones of the southern sector of the Andes mountain range. It is an evergreen tree, which can reach 20 meters in height. Its leaves are small, simple, and alternate. The flowers are small; The masculine ones are yellow-brown and the feminine green ones with purple lines. Among its uses is firewood to produce charcoal, and as food for cattle from which comes its name Boaria that means "relative to cattle" in Latin, the above because the animals look for their leaves to eat. In addition, the flowers combined with the European bees introduced produce a delicious honey. Today's theme seems to me to be extremely important, since knowing trees, their structure, products and functioning is a key aspect of what I am studying, so the more I study the trees, the closer I get to the understanding of nature. That for today friends, take care of yourself and see you the other week.
The maiten was one of my samples of the herbarium :D
